Create a site in WordPress

Blog vs. Website

By default, WordPress operates as a blog style web site, which displays a chronological list of posts. If instead, you want a static homepage more like a standard web site, you may make that switch. The primary changes you’ll make include switching the Front Page settings to a Static page, and building a custom menu. WordPress provides excellent help on setting up a website.

TIP:

Better yet, use the power of pages AND posts. There are some serious advantages to using Posts because they can be dynamically categorized, making them easier to organize and add to on the fly. Pages on the other hand can provide stable content that doesn’t change often. The site you’re looking at, for example, has a static set of pages to describe each web authoring tool, and then relies on categorized posts to quickly add content into the under the appropriate topics. Custom menus allow you to combine the use of post categories and pages.
